The St. Margaret\u2019s Bay Food Bank and Thrift Store held a successful Open House on April 26 from 2:00\u20134:00 p.m. at its new location, 9A Sonny Road in Tantallon, marking an exciting new chapter since relocating in March 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was well attended by local residents and elected officials who enjoyed a sunny afternoon featuring live outdoor music by Blackburn&James, a barbecue with hot dogs, and cake. The thrift store was open for browsing and shopping, and many attendees generously donated non-perishable food items in support of the food bank.<\/p>\n\n\n

Local businesses contributed donated items for the raffle and auction, adding to the strong sense of community support. Through sponsorships, donations, the auction and raffle, and thrift store sales, more than $7,500 was raised. A significant portion of those funds came from the generosity of Sobeys staff and customers, whose support made a meaningful impact. In addition, more than $2,000 was received in in-kind donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Open House received media coverage from CBC and LiveNS TV, along with social media support from local politicians. This helped spread the word about the food bank and thrift store\u2019s new location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thrift store at 9A Sonny Road accepts donations during opening hours, Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30a.m. to 3:30p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to space limitations, furniture or large household donations cannot be accepted. All funds raised through the thrift store directly support food bank operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organization is deeply grateful to everyone who donated, volunteered, attended, and helped make the Open House such a success. It truly takes a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
