Bay Seniors’ open house highlights activities for seniors in St. Margaret’s Bay

If you’re a senior or a friend, neighbour, or family member of a senior in the St. Margaret’s Bay area, Bay Seniors hopes you’ll stop in at the association’s annual open house, being held this year on Thursday, September 17, 2-4pm, at the Black Point & Area Community Centre.

With a wide variety of programs and services, a dedicated group of volunteers, and over 1,000 members, Bay Seniors continues to offer an increasing array of social, recreational, fitness, creative, and skills-development opportunities to local seniors.

These opportunities are on display at the Bay Seniors Open House, which is held each year at a different location in and around St. Margaret’s Bay.

“We want to be able to serve as many seniors in our catchment area as possible,” says Bay Seniors President Pat Rodee. “In addition to holding our annual open house in different locations, we use venues throughout different parts of our area for our programs and services.”

The open house is free and open to everyone in the community. Volunteers who lead the association’s programs and services—everything from a weekly drop-in social to fitness classes to dedicated groups for interests that include birding, machine-sewing, home canning, contract bridge, day trips, and more—will be on hand to chat and answer questions.

There will also be sales tables with sewn items and baked goods made by Bay Seniors volunteers to support the association’s programs and services, and donated jewellery to support the St. Margaret’s Bay Food Bank.

“Our annual open house has become a tradition for our members to stop in, have some coffee and cake, and catch up with each other after the summer,” says Pat Rodee. “But it’s also become a wonderful way for other people in the community to check out what we offer in a casual and friendly atmosphere—and we always end up attracting new members, which is great.”

Bay Seniors, established in 2009, is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers. Membership is $10 per year and there is no minimum age to join, though most members are over 55. Donations of $25 or more are eligible for a tax receipt. Visit bayseniors.ca for more information.
