The Little Harbour is a not-for-profit organization based in Hubbards, supporting families across the South Shore and HRM. It began with two moms chatting over coffee about the need for more opportunities for young families to connect, find support, and build community. That simple conversation sparked the idea for The Little Harbour. At its heart, The Little Harbour is about bringing families together, sharing resources, and reminding parents and caregivers that they are not alone on this journey.
In September, we launched our first playgroup at the Blackpoint and Area Community Centre. Designed for children aged 0–5 and their caregivers, the playgroup runs on a drop-in basis every Friday morning from 10 am to 12 pm and is completely free to attend. We meet in a large gym filled with toys and plenty of space for little ones to play and run around.
We also offer diaper swaps and children’s clothing and outerwear swaps, with items generously donated by community members. Donations of clothing, toys, or diapers can be dropped off at the JD Shatford Library or the Aspotogan Heritage Trust building in Hubbards.
Here are a few ways to connect with us:
- Follow us on social media. Find us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/thelittleharbour.ns) or Instagram (@the.littleharbour) for updates and a weekly round-up of family friendly events and activities in Hubbards and the surrounding areas.
- Join us for playgroup! Visit us Friday mornings at the Blackpoint and Area Community Centre, 8579 St. Margarets Bay Road. Meet other local families and enjoy complimentary coffee or tea while the little ones play.
- Get involved! We welcome volunteers to help run our playgroups and we also gratefully accept monetary donations. Contributions help us purchase toys, improve our play space, provide diapers and baby care essentials, and support the day-to-day operations of The Little Harbour. For more information, message us on Facebook or Instagram, or email littleharbourhub@gmail.com.
At The Little Harbour, we believe that raising a family takes a community. We look forward to welcoming you!
