The recently announced 2026 Toby Award shortlist includes The Pet-Sit by Carol Moreira, a talented Seabright, Nova Scotia community member.
Set in Portsmouth, England, The Pet-Sit tells the story of a private investigator searching for a woman who went missing from the town years before. A riveting tale, The Pet-Sit moves beyond a simple missing person’s case by exploring themes of abuse, trauma, and payback, while also centring healing and second chances.
Established by author and ReBound Press founder, Peggy Blair, and sponsored by ReBound Press and Ottawa philanthropist, Barbara Crook, the Toby Award celebrates the talent of self-published Canadian mystery writers. The second annual Toby Award winner will be announced at the Rideau Lakes-Portland Library on May 24th, 2026. All shortlisted authors are invited to publish an original short story in the ReBound Press-published anthology, Crime for the Cottage.
