In just 77 pages, the author, an artist, writer, teacher and former therapist, takes the reader through a step wise journey of self
discovery and self-acceptance.
Using the model of the 12 Steps, Jones Callahan describes how she has used art, honest reflection, and other prompts to explore her own journey toward truth, sobriety, and peace, while gently inviting the reader to do the same. The power of art to let us explore, release, grieve, celebrate, and share is a strong thread running through the book, with colour images of some of the author’s art.
These images illustrate aspects of her own journey and help to evoke emotions and impressions.
Questions for readers to ask themselves are offered in every section, as are suggestions for making our own art.
“Here’s what I want you to know: art-making can be your bridge to the spiritual, however you understand it,” Jones
Callahan writes, early in the book. She adds: “It offers a safe method for exploring your own understanding….”
is is a book to dip into again and again, a sheltering reminder that the messiness of life is navigable when we know ourselves and choose to lead with kindness and honesty to ourselves and others—and embrace the power of expressing our creativity.
