Summer Safety Tips for a Safe and Enjoyable Summer

As summer begins, Nova Scotia RCMP would like to share some tips to help you relax, explore, and spend time with family and friends safely this summer.

Drive sober

  • Plan your ride before going to family gatherings, community events, parties, or beach days.
  • Choose a designated driver, taxi, rideshare, or another safe way home.
  • Alcohol, cannabis, or drugs and driving do not mix.

Protect your vehicle and belongings

  • Lock your vehicle, even for short stops.
  • Keep valuables out of sight or leave them at home.
  • Never leave keys, wallets, phones, or electronics unattended in your vehicle, at the beach, park, or anywhere else.

Look out for each other

  • Keep an eye on children, friends, and the rest of your group.
  • Report unsafe or suspicious activity.
  • If you need police, call us. In an emergency, call 911.

Keep access clear

  • Park only in designated areas.
  • Do not block roads, lanes, driveways, gates, or access points.
  • Emergency vehicles need to have clear access at all times; clear access can save lives.

Make it a great day!

  • Follow posted signs and local regulations.
  • Respect other beachgoers, nearby residents, and the environment.
  • Take your garbage with you and leave the beach better than you found it.

A little planning helps everyone enjoy our beautiful province safely. Nova Scotia RCMP wishes everyone a safe and happy summer! Follow along on our social media accounts for more safety tips. Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia on Facebook and @rcmp_ns on Instagram.
